Working principle
Tamping Rammer: Use the impact force generated when an object falls freely from a certain height to compact the material. When the free-falling object contacts the surface of the material, the pressure wave generated by the impact force is transmitted into the paving material, causing the material particles to move, thereby achieving the compaction effect.
Plate Compactor: Apply force through weight and compact gravel and soil together through violent vibration. Its vibrating plate works at a high vibration speed and compacts the soil by moving up and down quickly.
Applicable scenarios
Tamping Rammer:
Narrow space: Such as indoors, ditches, near walls and foundations and other small areas. The rammer is small and compact and can enter these places for construction.
Cohesive soil: Suitable for compacting cohesive (soft) soil, and performs better in situations where high compaction is required, such as compacting cohesive soil for building foundations.
Special parts: For areas that are difficult to compact with rollers, such as corners, rammers can take advantage of their flexibility and high impact force for effective compaction.
Plate Compactor:
Granular soil and asphalt: Mainly used for compaction of sandy granular media, such as sand, gravel and asphalt. In road construction, it is suitable for compacting various non-cohesive soils, crushed stone mixtures and asphalt concrete, and is often used for compaction of base and subbase of highway pavement.
Large flat area: Due to its wide plate, the vibration characteristics can make the compaction layer more uniform, which is suitable for operation in large flat areas, such as parking lots, squares, etc.
Performance characteristics
Tamping Rammer:
Compaction strength: It can produce a large impact force, has a good effect on deep compaction, and can make the soil reach a higher density.
Mobility: Small rammers are flexible to operate, can move freely in complex terrain and narrow spaces, and adapt to different construction environments.
Plate Compactor:
Work efficiency: In large-area compaction operations, the work efficiency of the plate compactor is high and the compaction task can be completed quickly.
Flatness: The soil particles are rearranged through vibration, which can better ensure the flatness of the compacted surface, and is suitable for pavement projects with high flatness requirements.
Operation and maintenance:
Tamping Rammer: The operation is relatively simple, but due to the large impact force, the operator needs certain skills and experience to control the machine to ensure the compaction effect and construction safety. Some small rammers are easy to maintain and parts are easy to replace.
Plate Compactor: Easy to operate, usually only need to control the forward, backward and vibration switches, etc. The structure of the plate compactor is relatively complex, and maintenance requires certain professional knowledge and skills, especially the maintenance requirements for the vibration system and engine are high.
If the construction site is mainly narrow space, sticky soil or special parts need to be compacted, the rammer is a better choice; if it is compacted on a large area of granular soil or asphalt pavement, and the flatness requirements are high, the plate compactor is more suitable.
